The Solomon’s chain is now offering delivery service for customers who want fresh fruits and vegetables from their local markets.
Deliveries have become a trend in India, which is witnessing a surge in the number of small businesses opening up in recent years.
According to data compiled by the India Business Line, more than half of India’s 500 million businesses are in the food and beverage sector.
With the growth in small businesses, it has become difficult for a large chain to keep up with demand.
In the past, the market size of a food and drinks store could range from 1,000 to 1.5 lakh square feet.
Now, it can grow to around 2 lakh square foot and reach up to 20,000 square feet of space.
According to the India-based retail consultancy, Deloitte India, a food chain can earn between Rs.4-8 lakh per sq.ft. in the country.
For convenience, the grocery chain offers a wide range of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and spices.
Customers can also purchase food and beverages from various vendors and restaurants.
In a survey conducted by the company, over 50% of respondents said that the delivery option helps them find and shop for fresh produce at their local food market.
The company has expanded its delivery service to more than 20,0000 stores across India, and it plans to start rolling out the service nationwide in the coming months.
